Californ-I-A

So we left Ashland with mixed feelings. It was great to get back on the road and get back in to the travelling frame of mind, but we had a nice time in Ashland with the family. It was good to spend extended time with them, but the show must go on as they say.

We left Ashland and headed to the Jedidiah Smith redwood state park. This is also known as ‘the forest moon of Endor’ for any Star Wars nerds reading.

Here’s us standing by a massive Redwood tree in the state park.

Later we headed down the coast and look what we found!

CA - drive through Tree

A tree you can drive through! I know this is a tourist kitschy thing, but how often do you get to drive an SUV through a tree?

Later we went to one of the coves on the coast and went Mussel hunting. They’re not hard to hunt being a largely sedentary creature, but you do have to make sure it’s low tide and it’s important to time your crossing of the rocks so you don’t get your feet wet, Steff…

Now we’re staying with friends near Arcata, California so more soon…
