We're back home now after a 500 mile drive and 2 night test.
It mostly went well, but the car did develop a slight and intermittent fault. It seems that driving hard up hill makes it lack power and the 'service engine' light came on and will not go off.
The internet tells me that this could be many reasons: fuel pump, injectors, distributor, rotor arm, HT leads, fuel, intake manifold leak and a few others. Therefore, and in true cheap-skate style, I have decided the best course of action is just to hoover out the air filter (cheaper than a new one) and putting some injector cleaner in the fuel. Let's hope it works!
